Dear EPALE members,
behind the scenes, the EPALE editorial team has been working hard to develop what we hope will be an even more engaging monthly package of adult learning content, delivered straight to your inbox.
As a journalist, I am always curious about the connections between education and broader societal discussions. Bringing that curiosity along, in this monthly section, I plan to explore topical adult learning issues, introduce our key themes of the month, and hopefully spark some new thoughts.
This month, we are focusing on the deeper context behind continuous skill-building in a world that is changing at a dizzying speed. The rise of AI and the urgent need to tackle the sustainability crisis, for example, require flexibility, interdisciplinary collaboration, and constant rethinking. I find it comforting to realise that these are things we have always done because they are what make us human—we just need to cultivate them more.
We also need to let go of outdated knowledge and assumptions. One example is the narrow social roles we still assign to people based on gender, which often limit women's educational paths. Fortunately, if we truly want to, we all have the capacity to unlearn and relearn.
